OMB has established cost principles for Federal programs detailed in 2 CFR §200.400. This session defines the meaning of OMB’s term “final cost objective” and examines how costs are classified between direct and indirect costs. For indirect costs, the session provides options to properly allocate costs to the final cost objective using appropriate cost drivers. Topics covered in this session include:

  • Classifying direct and indirect costs;
  • Allocating direct and indirect costs; and
  • Time and activity reporting.

A PHA cost allocation plan is used to reinforce the concepts, with a cost allocation template to be provided to participants.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Housing authority supervisory / program staff, accounting and financial management staff, and independent auditors wanting to understand HUD’s program rules, financial and accounting requirements for the Public Housing and/or HCV programs.

This session will assist the PHA in preparing for their annual audit. Topics to be covered include:
  • Client preparation of schedules and other client-prepared documents required by auditors;
  • Common areas of interest to auditors;
  • Processes to facilitate a quick and effective audit and minimize REAC annual reporting delays and comments; and
  • Update on GASB standards that impact the current year audit.
FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT WEBINAR SERIES INFORMATION

The courses offered provide information on key topics associated with the Public Housing (PH) and Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) programs in manageable two to three-hour blocks that are scheduled on average twice a month.

  • The courses provide “nuts and bolts” information to help practitioners in performing their duties.
  • Where applicable, each course highlights high risk areas and common problems.
  • as appropriate, each course provides examples, templates, and checklists.

COURSE FEES:
  • The fee for a 2-hour course is $129 per person, unless otherwise noted
  • The fee for a 3-hour course is $179 per person
  • Organizations or participants that register for 3 or more of the same/different course will receive $10 discount per course. Discount only applies to registrations submitted at the same time and is not retroactively applied.
PROGRAM KNOWLEDGE LEVEL / PREREQUISITES: Courses are updated for content. You should have a basic knowledge of the Public Housing and / or HCV program.
COURSE FORMAT: Webinars are hosted on the Zoom webinar platform. A camera and microphone are not required.
CPE CREDIT: Each registered participant is eligible to receive CPE credit. CPE credits are based on a 50-minute hour, in accordance with the standards for the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. CPE credit is provided by AHACPA. More information on CPE Credit can be obtained here.
